  • CRIME ALERT- Public Notification

    CrimeALERT: Arson - Ganedago Hall On September 19, 2023, at 11:40 a.m., the Cornell University Police Department and Cornell University Environmental Health & Safety responded to Ganedago Hall for a report of a sign damaged by fire in an elevator. It is unknown when the fire occurred but the damage was first observed on August 30, 2023. The incident is under investigation and no suspect description is available. Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to contact the Cornell University Public Safety Communications Center at (607) 255-1111. The Cornell University Police Department urges the community to protect themselves in the event of a fire by alerting those around you, then evacuating the building, closing room doors as you leave, activating the fire alarm, and moving away from the building once you exit. Immediately report any suspected criminal activity by dialing 911 or utilizing the RAVE Guardian app.

Crime

  • On the Ithaca campus Call 911 to report a crime in progress or criminal behavior to Cornell Police.
    • At other locations call 911 to contact the local police department.
  • Do not approach or attempt to apprehend the person(s) involved.
    • Take only actions necessary for self-defense.
    • If you are safe, stay where you are until the police arrive.  Otherwise, try to move to a safe location.
  • Report as much information as possible including:
    • Type of crime.
    • Description of persons involved, including height, weight, sex, clothing and any weapons.
    • Location of crime.
    • Direction of travel.
    • Vehicle description, including color, year, make, model and license.

To report non-emergency criminal activities, including crimes that are no longer in progress, missing property, minor auto accidents without injuries, disabled vehicles, etc. Crime and tips can be also be reported to Cornell Police using the Rave Guardian app. Download the free Guardian app at the Apple store or Google Play.  Explore the app features at Rave Guardian.

  • In New York City call 311
  • At Cornell AgriTech call the local police:
    • Geneva Police Department at 315-789-1111
