Emergency Support Function 1: Transportation
PURPOSE
ESF-1: Transportation coordinates the provision of transportation related services including traffic direction and control, vehicle parking, and transportation of people (including accessible transport) and materials.
CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS
Coordinating Unit: Cornell University Transportation and Delivery Services
Transportation Services has primary responsibility for coordination of transportation related services for the Cornell campus. Additional support is provided by other units within the Facilities and Campus Services Division and outside public and private transportation service vendors.
ESF ACTIONS
Transportation Services
- Traffic direction and control by Transportation Services staff.
- Coordination of campus traffic flow including rerouting of vehicle and pedestrian traffic to support incident operations and manage the impacts of closed transportation routes.
- Coordination of use of campus parking lots and facilities.
- Coordination of evacuation transportation and emergency transportation of people by campus and vendor vehicles.
- Coordinate transportation of materials by campus and vendor vehicles.
- Coordinate damage assessments of campus transportation resources including roadways, bridges, parking lots, and sidewalks.
Facilities and Campus Services
- Provision of campus vehicles and drivers for transportation of materials.
- Provision of barricades and other materials and equipment to block roadways and sidewalks.
Ithaca Fire Department
- Traffic direction and control by the Ithaca Fire Department Fire Police Unit.
